In the past students received instant feedback on their current grades by reading a spreadsheet posted outside the teacher's door. For privacy, this spreadsheet posted the grades to a secret code number known only to the student and the teacher. The Engineering & Technology Department no longer permits this, but this teacher still believes that timely feedback to the student is a vital part of the evaluation process.
Students may now compute their own grades by printing this Web page and following these instructions exactly:
1) Enter your score for each assignment in Column B.
2) Enter the maximum points for that assignment in Column C (see the Classroom Policies handout for details.)
3) Enter any Extra Credit scores into cell B15. Leave cell C15 empty!
4) Enter the current sum of cells B1 through B15 into cell B16. Enter the current sum of cells C1 through C14 into cell C16.
5) Divide B16/C16 and convert the result to percent (multiply by 100). Enter the percentage into cell B17.
6) As stated in the Classroom Policies handout, a score of over 90% earns an A; over 80% earns a B, over 70% earns a C, and over 60% earns a D.
7) Each time another graded assignment is returned, simply update this score sheet and you will instantly know your current grade!
