4. Course Description:

Digital computer fundamentals from the systems and circuit approach and an introduction to the basic theory of analog computers. [3 lecture, 2 lab hours per week.] (Note to students: this description is obsolete, and we do not really study analog computers.)

Students successfully completing this course will have a basic knowledge of:

7.1 Binary, octal, and hexadecimal number systems

7.2 Boolean algebra and mapping techniques

7.3 Applications and analysis of logic diagrams

7.4 Binary arithmetic systems

7.5 Pulse generating and timing devices

7.6 Flip-flops

7.7 Counters

7.8 Shift registers
 
8. Expected Performance Outcomes (measurable):

The students will:

8.1 Be able to construct physical circuits from given schematics with a minimum of errors

8.2 Be able to interpret readings from various meters inserted into the circuit

8.3 Be able to analyze mathematically any digital circuit presented

8.4 Demonstrate proficiency in electrical safety activities at all times

8.5 Be able to analyze laboratory results and submit in standard report form

8.6 Be able to technically discuss any findings and problems that are presented in the laboratory and/or the assigned homework

8.7 Be willing to extend assistance in verbal or physical form to other classmates
 
9. Minimum Course Requirements (examples may include):
