4. Course Description:
This course consists of a study of the relations between microprocessors, bus structures, interfacing procedures, input output networks, digital communication systems, and programming languages. This information should provide the student with a knowledge of how digital subsystems are combined to form operating systems.

7. Learning Objectives (goals):
Students successfully completing this course will be able to:
7.1 Understand the basic components of a personal computer.
7.2 Understand the formats for data storage and transmission.
7.3 Understand the components of the CPU for a PC.
7.4 Understand the storage locations of various programs and data in the computer.
7.5 Use debug to view the contents of memory.
7.6 Understand the storage format of the hard drive and the diskette.
7.7 Use debug to view the contents of disk storage.
7.8 Understand the types of video in a PC.
7.9 Understand the use of video memory in the computer.
7.10 Understand how the keyboard communicates with the computer.
7.11 Understand how the computer uses BIOS to provide startup and basic services.

Students successfully completing this course will:
8.1 Attend class as scheduled.

8.3 Maintain "C" level standards on daily assignments.
8.4 Demonstrate proficiency in electrical safety activities at a minimum level of 70%.
8.5 Demonstrate proficiency in laboratory activities at a minimum level of 70%.
